About Homalco Tours

Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours and its staff have been the stewards of the grizzly bear population in our traditional territory of Bute Inlet for over a decade. The site’s cultural and historical significance spans thousands of years, and today our community welcomes tours to view the bears, learn about our connection to the land and wildlife, and become immersed in the beauty of the inlet.

Visitors choose Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours for many reasons. Our wilderness tours are unlike anything you’ve done before because we weave our ancestral knowledge, stories, language and marine expertise into every tour we give. These tours contribute to the rekindling of our culture, traditions and language. This is more than a profession for us – it’s a way of life.

We take our role as stewards of these lands and waters seriously. Dedicated to conservation and sustainability, we work tirelessly to preserve the pristine environment of the Xwémalhkwu or Homalco First Nation and ensure that our wildlife and cultural tours leave minimal impact on the natural world. This includes being a Biosphere Committed organization dedicated to aligning our operations with three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our commitment to our guests is steadfast. Our guides are certified in safe bear viewing by the Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC, and all are trained in first aid. Our guides and skippers are certified by the Marine Education and Research Society for whales, wildlife and culture tours.

Our Boats

Our tour boats are unlike any other on Vancouver Island. Our guests get two seats for the price of one, so they can choose if they want to experience their tour from a comfortable seat inside the covered, heated cabin or on an adventure seat on the outer deck. Our boats also have the largest windows of any tour boat in Campbell River to allow you to take in as much of your natural surroundings as possible, and we have easily accessible washrooms.
